Pom poms

I love pom poms, I don't know what it is about them, perhaps they remind me of my childhood, but for whatever reason I love pompoms, especially on kid things.

I don't love pompoms this much

or this much

But I do love them this much

The thing I DON'T like about pom poms, is making them.  Every time I have ever made pompoms it has been fairly disastrous. In fact those hat ones above, I think I made about 6 of each colour before having 2 I was happy with. Between the cutting and the tying and the cardboard circles - argh!

Anyway perhaps I am just behind the times, (or maybe I will blame New Zealand) I very recently realised there were such things as pom pom makers!

There were actually a few options at the chain crafty store (the LYS didn't stock them) but I went for the simplest looking option.

It comes with instructions, so below is just to show you, that yes indeed this IS easier than cardboard circles!

Now I just need to attach them to a new Jamie Hat and we will be in business!  And it was SO easy, perhaps I will start a pom pom wreath for next Christmas after all......  ;)

  2. Ooh all those beautiful pom poms. I think I have one of those sitting somewhere amongst my knitting stuff. I will have to try it out as I normally have trouble making pompoms where they fall to bits.

  5. I have one of those Clover brand ones and it's a bit annoying. That looks much easier, I wonder if I can find one around here. Either way, pom poms for me are a hit and miss. Sometimes I like them, sometimes I don't.

  6. OH how fun! I hate making pom poms too. The cardboard circles never work out for me. I'll have to look for one of those tools, here!

  11. I'm more reserved in my use of the pom pom... however, if I had a pom pom maker, things could get crazy. :-D

  12. I've never seen this tool, and it looks AMAZING! I'm with you on the cardboard circles. More trouble than they're worth. I have a plastic circle pom pom kit, but haven't tried it because I'm scared of wasting the yarn haha

  13. I had completely forgotten how to make pompoms until this past Halloween when I had to make pink poofs for C's costume. Those cardboard circle things are a pain the behind. This contraptions looks fairly painless. And if I have the need to make more of them...

  15. Went looking for your pom pom maker and didn't find that one but found another one instead. Now my Jamie hat finally has pom poms after sitting naked without them for about 3 months.

  16. Love this. I made a wreath with pom poms and even added them to my daughter's poncho. Making them and trimming them was a pain. Love those hats.
