I am reading Kitchen by Banana Yoshimoto, its a translation from a Japanese story and I am enjoying it, but for a 150 pg book, its taking forever!
I have done quite a lot of reading this week, it started with 'Hungry for Change' which I read on Saturday and it really resonated with me. I have given up artificial sweeteners and ALL lite/diet/low fat products, easy! I've also been drinking more water. And since then I have been working my way though this great website 100 days of Real Food, which if you are at all interested in making some changes, I really recommend. I am taking it slowly, adding things in to start with, rather than taking things out (except the artificial sweeteners, they just had to go). This isn't about weight loss, at least for me, but more about long term health, and definitely that of my children who are fed far too many processed foods, which are going to be slowly replaced with a few more homemade things instead. I'll be back with more of that another day, back to the knitting!
On the right is my Wonder Blanket, I find it quite addictive, and figure if I give it a couple of hours a week, I will get there sometime this year.
Down the bottom is a new prototype I am working on, I won't say more, except its a boys design :) Now that my son has returned to wearing whatever rather than 'it has to be batman/transformer/superman/spiderman etc etc) he gets knits again, as I think he might actually wear them again!
And top left is a new pair of Basket Weave Rib Socks, just for knitting wherever I need some knitting, they will probably go quite slowly till I am back at kids swimming lessons and similar!
So what are you knitting or reading this week??

Love the colour of your socks - and the grey is making me curious...
ReplyDeleteI try to eat like this although I struggle to drink enough water when it is COLD outside (like today).. I'm off to check out your links, they look interesting :)
One picture so many projects! Always interesting to her about other people's read!
ReplyDeleteHungry for Change sounds like a great book, Sarah. Good for you! You'll feeel so much better for it.
ReplyDeleteWe follow a wholefoods approach to food and there are a number of really awesome websites around, particularly Jude Blereau who has a wonderful cookbook Wholefoods For Kids. She is the guru!
Happy to pass you some of my fav links. Once you dig deeper, you'll find that even some ingredients that seem "whole" are full of awful chemicals and additives; such as white flour, self raising flour, white sugar, most bicarb of soda and most baking powders.
I can understand your addiction with your wonder blanket, it is beautiful!

I like that book by Banana Yoshimoto! I plan to reread it for the third time ;) and those are lovely WIPs!
ReplyDeletethe 100 days of real food pledge sounds really worth trying.. I think I'd give it a try sometime soon. avoiding white rice in my country (Indonesia) is a bit tricky though.
Hungry for Change definitely changes your perspective on food. Have you seen the documentary? Equally life changing :-) Some other good food docs are Food, Inc. and Forks over Knives.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you have lots of projects on the go! Good for you for making the changes in your diet. I avoid all lite/low fat/artificial sweetener products like the plague. As far as reading, right now I am working my way through the book Sheepish. It is hilarious!
ReplyDeleteI'm working on my sweater and some wrist warmers. I love your blanket! And thank you for sharing the website and info on the diet and real food. I have been in the same mindset for awhile now.
ReplyDeleteI love the Hungry for Change approach. Good for you for getting rid of those nasty artificial sweetners.
ReplyDeleteThere's a frustrating story in the UK press today and the ridiculous ideas about food that are coming out of people's mouths are making steam come out of my ears!!
The blanket idea is really clever, I like that.
Thank you for all the wonderful links, I will be using them.
ReplyDeleteI became interested in "Real" food a few years back and am very happy with how I now feel, it makes such a diffence.
Have a great Wednesday.
It's so wonderful to commit to a healthier lifestyle. I hope you enjoy replacing those processed foods and learning more about how your body reacts to different types of intake. I can see how the Wonder Blanket could get addictive. The colors look really marvelous.
ReplyDeleteI think you are doing you and your children a great service. My mother raised me and my siblings on all natural, non-processed foods, the only time she bought baby food was on vacation. We are definitely the better for it both physically and in being able to make good nutritional choices.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to seeing your new design!
I love the progress on your wonder blanket-- it's looking great!
ReplyDeleteWow... your wonder blanket looks (dare I say it?) ... wonderful! Yes to real food! I grew up eating fresh produce and meats daily (very Asian) and have done the same for my family. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI love your Wonder Blanket. I made something similar a few years ago and will again since I am also joining Evelyn's KAL. We eat a lot of real food in our house as well since I have a huge garden and we preserve a lot of it, but every now and then I just crave processed not good for you food. I figure if it is occasionally, it's not too bad. It's if I eat it daily that I'm in trouble. I'm headed to check out the links right now.
